Bokujō Monogatari: Yōkoso! Kaze no Bazaar e, or, Harvest Moon DS: Grand Bazaar, is a farming simulator game originally released on December 18, 2008 in Japan. Natsume released it in English for US players on August 24, 2010, and Rising Star Games released it in Europe on September 30, 2011.
The gameplay is very similar to other BokuMono/Harvest Moon games, with a catch: there's no shipping bins, only a weekly bazaar. You level up your bazaar through the years by selling lots of things. Also similarly to other Harvest Moon games for the DS, there's a decay system, so your harvested crops and flowers will rot in your inventory if you don't take steps to manage them.
The reception for the game seemed to be lukewarm for the time. Some complaints I've seen floating around include the difficulty spike of only being able to sell weekly, as well as the goals for the bazaar being difficult to reach, as well as the map size and the fact you can damage your crops by walking over them.
However, this was the first Harvest Moon game I ever played, so this game has a special place in my heart. I ended up learning the various quirks of the game, and it had the side effect of making most the other games pretty easy. Sure, it may not be the best gameplay wise, but the designs are cute, and I personally love how they gave the characters a tiny bit of voice acting, like sighing or giggling. It really added to the depth of the game, and I wish they'd do something like that again.
Harvest Moon DS: Grand Bazaar was fairly experimental. Whether or not it was a success is in the eye of the beholder. but I personally loved it and wish they'd come back to some of the mechanics, like the weekly bazaar instead of shipping box someday. They already kind of revisited it with Story of Season's marketplace, but that wasn't particularly well-liked either, which is a shame. I feel the farming sim genre really needs a breath of fresh air, and I do hope to visit Zephyr Town again someday... just maybe without some of the more unusual quirks.
